Jade Hendrix, Shelby Figueroa, & Mitchell Blake | June 18, 2015 | 7:30pm
Her name is Jade Hendrix, a name you won’t forget once you’ve heard her sing. Jade’s talent is undeniable; her music, irresistible. She grew up in Ojai, California, in the valley of the purple shadows, the daughter of Sharon Hendrix, a popular backup singer for performers Tom Jones, Natalie Cole and Barry Manilow, among others. Jade’s music resonates in a set of songs filled with playful, probing, word-painted imagery and a voice that’s plaintive, soulful and warm.
Mitchell Blake’s Folk Americana roots come from a small town in Colorado, which followed him to the Navy, and finally our very own Ventura County. The guitar-slinging performer’s savory vocals tell a story peppered with blues and delicate melodies. It’s an easy story to listen to, the guitar picking and bottom end of the verse in “Coming Home” lightly hints of the influence of Roger Waters’ “Goodbye Blue Sky”. Though one wouldn’t readily jump to such a conclusion between the two artists, but somehow when you listen, the darker undertone just seems to draw you right in.
Don’t let Shelby Figueroa’s quiet demeanor fool you, she’s a vocal powerhouse. This singer, songwriter & pianist will captivate you not only with her melodic voice, but with her tear-stained lyrics. Shelby decided to pursue her passion of music by entering the “One’s to Watch” singer- songwriter competition held at the legendary “Zoey’s Cafe”. After winning second place Shelby has had the opportunity to perform at numerous great venues and concerts, including the Cambridge Drive Concert Series. Shelby has also recorded some harmonies on several albums featuring artists such as former “The Voice” contestant Lee Koch!
