July 14 | Tuesday | 7:30pm-10pm | Bogies | Susie Hansen Trio
Susie Hansen plays her five-string electric violin with energy and joy, and gives the audience a fun show of Latin jazz. According to Oscar Abadia, on radio station KLVE-FM (K-Love), 107.5 in Los Angeles, "Susie Hansen is the greatest Salsa violinist in America." Susie has been featured as a soloist with Cuba's premiere Salsa dance orchestra, Orquesta Los Van Van, both in Los Angeles CA and in Havana, Cuba. She has also performed with the famous Cuban Charanga band, Orquesta Aragon, one of the most acclaimed and beloved dance ensembles in Cuba.
Latin Beat magazine selected Susie's first CD, Solo Flight, as one of its top 100 Independent Latin Jazz recordings. Her second CD, The Salsa Never Ends, featured the song, "La Salsa Nunca Se Acaba," which has received worldwide acclaim and extensive airplay all around the globe. Susie's most recent CD, Representante de la Salsa, has garnered world-wide recognition. "She stakes a claim as the music's Representative, not an unfounded boast with her hard-driving Latin jazz and naturally powerful playing," according to Matt Marshall of Jazz Inside Magazine in New York City.
Susie's all-star trio features Susie on lead vocals and electric violin, the "one-and-only" Joe Rotondi on keyboards and left-hand bass, and Tony Shogren on drums and congas. Her group has been praised by critics worldwide. Don Heckman of the Los Angeles Times wrote that Susie's band "creates a brand of music that is as physically moving as it is intellectually stimulating." But this is what Susie likes to say — "We aim for the feet!"
