Jazz pianist, composer and Grammy Award-winning arranger Bill Cunliffe is known for his swinging, lyrical pianism and inspired writing that freely straddles musical genres. Bill began his career as pianist and arranger with the Buddy Rich Big Band and worked with Frank Sinatra, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Benny Golson and James Moody. He now performs as a soloist, with his trio, his Latin band and his big band, as a sideman and as guest artist with symphony orchestras. Accolades include first place in the 1989 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition and multiple Grammy nominations in composition and arranging in addition to his 2009 award. Bill has taught at numerous institutions and workshops, including the Skidmore Jazz Institute and Temple University. He is a professor of music at California State University, Fullerton, where he was honored as a Distinguished Faculty Member in 2010.
