IAIN MATTHEWS is an English musician and songwriter who first gained attention as a founding member of Fairport Convention, a very influential British folk-rock band. After three albums, Matthews moved on to start his own legendary folk group, Matthews Southern Comfort, exploring his interest in American music, and in 1970 they had a number one hit with a cover version of Joni Mitchell's song "Woodstock". Iain has been a voice in the folk-rock music scene for more than 50 years. Matthews was also known as Ian McDonald in the 60s. In the 1970s his group Plainsong allowed him to develop as a songwriter and acoustic guitarist together with ex-Fairport Convention bandmates, Sandy Denny and Richard Thompson. Iain has released over 50 albums, and ten have received critical acclaim including a Top Ten US hit, ‘Shake It’. In recent years he has performed mainly as a solo or duo act and continues to tour Europe and the US often. http://iainmatthews.nl/
